Traveling with your pet can be a great adventure, but it is essential to ensure that your furry friend has a stress-free and smooth trip. At the Animal Medical Center of Streetsboro, we have put together our top three tips for traveling safely with your pet!
Here are three tips for traveling with your pet that you should keep in mind:
1. Pre-Trip Planning: Do extensive research before the trip begins to make sure you know all of your pet’s needs while they are away from home. Know what type of food and water they need, if there are any vaccinations or medications that must be taken, and know the state laws regarding pets. Also, be sure to have your dog’s documentation on hand that the state you are traveling to may require.
2. Travel Comfort and Safety: Make sure that you bring items to keep your pet comfortable during the ride. This includes bringing a comfortable bed, soft toys, and favorite treats. Pack a bag with all their favorites to keep them comfortable and happy throughout your trip! In addition to your pet’s favorites, be sure to bring water and a water bowl, dog food, grooming supplies, any medications, and first-aid supplies, as well as a waste scoop and waste bags.
Also, be sure to plan for plenty of potty breaks along the way to help prevent accidents.
Additionally, you should keep your dog in a crate that has been anchored to your vehicle using a seatbelt or other methods. This will prevent them from distracting the driver and can protect them in the event of an accident.
3. Research Accommodations: Make sure that you research pet-friendly hotels or other accommodation options before your trip, especially if you will be staying at different places or visiting places along the way. You do not want to be stuck in a place where your pet is not welcome!
By following these tips, you can ensure that your pet’s trip is stress-free and enjoyable.
